Frequently asked questions
What changed in Sarawak from 1 January 2025?
The fixed deposit rose to RM500,000 per application, placed with a local bank in Sarawak, and participants must spend at least 30 days a year in Sarawak. The minimum age is 30.
Does one deposit cover my family?
Yes. The RM500,000 deposit is per application and covers your spouse and dependants.
Do I have to buy a home in Sarawak?
Sarawak does not make a purchase compulsory in the way the federal programme does; agency guides describe it as optional. If you buy, foreign-buyer rules and state consent apply.
How do I apply?
Applications go to the Sarawak MTCP One Stop Centre, either directly with a Sarawak-based sponsor or through a Sarawak-licensed agent. Processing takes about 90 working days.
Is there an income test?
Reports differ. Invest Sarawak lists pension or income proof, while IMI Daily reported that the income test was dropped from 2025. Your agent confirms the current position.
