Visiting Johor Bahru from India to View Property

Planning a trip from India to see property in Johor Bahru? The short version: fly to Kuala Lumpur, then take the electric train or a short flight to JB, and I will meet you there and take you round a shortlist of units in a day. Indian citizens can currently visit Malaysia without a visa for up to 30 days, until 31 December 2026.

Entering Malaysia

  • Visa: Malaysia’s visa exemption for Indian citizens allows stays of up to 30 days. The Home Ministry extended it to 31 December 2026. If you travel in 2027, check the latest rule before you book.
  • Digital arrival card (MDAC): foreign visitors must submit the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card online within three days before arriving.
  • Passport: make sure it is valid for at least six months from your arrival date.

Getting to Johor Bahru

  • Fly to Kuala Lumpur. There are no direct flights from India to Johor Bahru at the moment, but many from Indian cities to Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia Airlines is now the largest carrier on the route, with AirAsia, Batik Air and Air India also flying it.
  • Train from KL to JB: the electric ETS train has run from KL Sentral to JB Sentral since December 2025, taking about 4.5 hours, with eight trips a day from January 2026. JB Sentral is in the city centre.
  • Or fly KL to JB: AirAsia flies Kuala Lumpur to Senai airport in Johor in about 50 to 55 minutes.
  • Check current schedules and fares on the airline and KTMB websites before you book.

How the viewing day works

  1. Message me with your dates, budget, the type of home you want and whether you plan to live in it, rent it out or both. As a foreign buyer, check the Johor minimum price for foreigners first.
  2. I prepare a shortlist of units that fit and confirm viewing times before you travel.
  3. We meet at JB Sentral when your train arrives, at Senai Airport, or at your hotel.
  4. We view the units, usually in one or two nearby areas, and I go through the costs and paperwork as we go.
  5. Afterwards I send you each unit’s full costs in ringgit and rupees.

Indian community in Johor Bahru

Johor Bahru has a long-established Indian community. The Arulmigu Rajamariamman Devasthanam on Jalan Ungku Puan is Johor’s oldest Hindu temple, with an Indian Heritage Centre opened in 2023, and the Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Glass Temple on Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, founded in 1922, was fully restored in 2024. Both are in or near the city centre. I could not find a CBSE or ICSE school in Johor Bahru; families usually look at the international schools here.
